After Finishing Great Expectation I like the novel. At the beginning of the novel I didn't think I would like it at all. But that changed through my reading of the book. I like the different types of characters, even though there are a lot of them. But I am not sure if I like Dickens writing style. One thing I like about Dickens writing was the way he descried all of the settings. I love the way he uses the sun in so many different ways. At times I didn't understand what Dickens was trying to get across. I have to say that without spark-notes I think I would only understand a little bit of the novel or maybe any of it. Having the discussions in the small groups also helped me understand the mysteries.
While reading this novel I don't think I changed my routine of getting up and staying up late. Maybe if I did get up a little earlier and read the parts a little more careful I would have understood it a little better. One thing that I did have to do was cram in many numbers of page on Thursday nights so that I could do my journal assignment. Even though I usually didn't do my journal because I was tired and want to do something that was fun.

Connections and Pictures
I don't have much to compare Great Expectations by Charles Dickens too. I think that To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is similar but also very different. Both of the novels are about growing up and coming of age.In Great Expectations Pip has a grows up living with his sister that raises he "by hand"; and Scout grows up in a more loving and caring house-hold. But Scout grows up in a racial period Both Pip and Scout face challenges.
Dickens and Lee have very different writing styles. Dickens gives many details to characters that are being introduced. Dickens uses animals to compare some of his characters in Great Expectations. Dickens also refers to the other novels that he has written. On the other hand Lee's writing style is different than Dickens. Lee's TKAM is more based on racial times. No author can be compared to close to Dickens because of his every original writing style.
These two novels are the similar as well. Both based on young children that are growing up. Both Pip and Scout want their life's to be different. Pip want to become a gentlemen. Scouts everything to be fixed between the people in Maycomb.

In TKAM scout doesn't like Boo's House.
In Great Expectations Pip say that he doesn't want to go home but then he doesn't want to leave once he gets there.

Second stage
When Pip goes to London he meets many new people. Pip had met Mr. Jaggers before the second stage but you get to know him better in the second stage. Mr.Jaggers has a lot of guilt. He washes his hands with a strong scented bar of soap. Mr. Jaggers tries to wash away the guilt that he has for the guilty people that he defends. He is always bring his work home. But still Mr. Jaggers is very direct and hard-working.
Joe and Mr. Jaggers are similar but also very different. Joe is strong, loyal and trust worthy. Joe is a Blacksmith and he is not ashamed of what he does. But he doesn't like his life as a blacksmith get in the way of his family. Joe is patient and has a lot of wisdom even thought he is not educated.

Pip's Quote
So far Pip had just gotten done with his first visit with Miss Havisham and met Estella. Pip took an interest in Estella very fast. Pip was thinking back to the day that he had. In chapter nine Pip is just a boy that thinks nothing to much of his life. But in the next chapters Pip starts to become more mature and starts to be a young man. The first day that Pip spent with Miss Havisham made Pip realize that he want to be more in life than becoming a blacksmith that doesn't know how to read or write.
In my life I have had a lot of ''chains'' break between people but one that has really impacted my life was when my aunt had her first daughter, Gabby. From the minute that I got to hold that small 2 hour old baby I never wanted to put her down. To this day Gabby is like the little sister I never had.
